2017 In Review + a Peak at 2018

Updated: Feb 18, 2019

Another year is in the books! We tried a few new things in 2017, some things worked out, and others were more of a learning experience...which is ok. Worth the try! Here are some of our highlights from 2017.

Started the Reading Program at Galloway

It seems like so long ago, but last January we started our first reading program at The Galloway School. It was a very successful first round, and Sadie & I both loved it :) We are SO ready to start the reading program again in just a few weeks! If you want to read more about how our first round went, you can click here.

Writing Warriors

We were able to pack a ton of great activities into Writing Warriors last summer. We worked our finger muscles, practiced all of our letters, and made plenty of obstacle courses to get some hard muscle work in. We'll see what this summer's programing looks like, but check out what we did last year!

Summer field trips

Yep, we went on three field trips last summer. We picked blueberries, hiked along the Chattahoochee River, and played at Brooke Run Park. The purpose of the field trips were to stay connected with my families over the break and to introduce all of the amazing families I work with to each other. I was definitely able to keep up with some of my families over the break, it was great to get out and have fun with everyone!

Welcomed our first OT student from Brenau

Brenau is a local OT school, and this past spring I had the pleasure of hosting a level one student. It' feels good giving back to the OT practice, and I really liked having someone else at the gym to talk about technical OT stuff with. This year we will continue to work with Brenau and we are excited to meet some future OTs!

Expanded our school consultations Last year we added two more schools to our list of schools we provide consultative services for. It's exciting getting to work with more and more schools! I just love being able to build relationships with my teachers and empowering them to bring our the best in their students. I can't wait to see what this year has in store for all of my schools!

A few weeks ago I got together with my team to talk about what we wanted to work on in 2018 and we are so excited for this year! We're focusing on 4 major areas-

1. Developing & growing the reading program (we officially named it "Bark Buddies")

2. Developing after school groups for children who need a little extra help, but don't need a full OT work up/evaluation.

3. Cranking out more content for you guys here on our blog (and hopefully a few freebies for you guys too). Education is empowerment!

4. Streamlining more of our administrative tasks so we can spend more time doing what we love & helping more kiddos and families.

We have our work cut out for us, but we are excited to try new things! What are your goals for 2018? I would love to hear them.
